Statistics: Russia’s population may fall to 142.9 mln people by 2036

MOSCOW, Dec 27 (PRIME) -- Russia’s population is projected to stand at 146.741 million people in early 2020 and decrease to 142.993 million people by 2036, the Federal State Statistics Service said on Friday.

“The average version of the forecast assumes that the total population at the beginning of 2020 will be 146.741 million people and will decrease to 142.993 million people (67.163 million men and 75.830 million women) by the beginning of 2036,” the forecast said.

“The total decrease will be 134,900 people in 2035. At the same time, the migration growth for all 15 years will remain at the level of 2020 (265,100 people in 2020 and 263,600 people in 2035) and will not be able to compensate for the natural population decline, which will grow from 355,700 to 398,500 people,” the service said.

The high forecast suggests that the total population at the beginning of 2020 will be 146.798 million people and will increase to 150.126 million people (71.075 million men and 79.051 million women) by the beginning of 2036. By 2035, the total population growth will reach 365,500 people.

The low forecast suggests that the total population will decrease from 146.706 million people as of early 2020 to 134.277 million people by early 2036.

Life expectancy in the average version of the forecast will increase from 73.42 years in 2020 to 79.1 years in 2035, the service said.

Under the high forecast, life expectancy will increase from 73.53 years in 2020 to 81.66 years in 2035. Under the low forecast, life expectancy will grow to 73.31 years to 75.40 years by the end of 2035.
